The Transitional Federal Government of Somalia's [TFG]
Committee on Constitution has said they have now finished
writing the [new] constitution.
The deputy chairman of the TFG committee on constitution and
federal affairs, who is also the acting chairman of the
committee, Abdikadir Shaykh Ismail, has today [Wednesday]
held a news conference in Mogadishu and said they have now
concluded the drafting of how the current constitution to be
compliant with the Islamic shari'ah.
The official said they will now tabled the new document
before the parliament for approval after which it will then
become law.
The deputy chairman of the TFG committee on constitution
said they will also table the document before the Somali
public and religious scholars in the country before it is
finally implemented.
The parliamentary committee on constitution had earlier on
announced that the document meant to ensure the current
constitution is shari'ah complaint, was almost complete.
It is not yet known whether the TFG parliament will approve
this document having earlier on voted in favour of the
implementation of shari'ah law in the country.
